Corporate Art Commission for U of C Children's Hospital

In my email this morning I had good news from Christy MacLear, owner of Fleur Fine Art gallery (she also owns both my bottle cap mermaid sculptures La Siren I and La Siren II). Christy put together a proposal on behalf of myself and other artists for University of Chicago Children's Hospital late last year, and I can finally announce that I've been selected as one of the artists for their project. She writes:

"U of C has you as a selected artist at this point.  They are now choosing a poem which we will give to you to develop some ideas for what the subject of a mosaic would be – I expect they will get that to you in the month via me.  Their deadline is early November so this will kick into gear soon!!!"

I love the idea of working from a poem... I spent fifteen years pursuing a poetry career before switching over to the visual arts. There's no way they could have known this, but it brings things around full circle rather nicely. Obviously, I'll post more details as I get them, but it's certainly very exciting.

About John
