I've spent a scary amount of time over the last two decades slamming coffee while pounding away at the keyboard, so I suppose it had to happen sooner or later. My coffee killed my Mac. One minute I was happily reading email telling me that a check was on the way which would have cleared all the outstanding bills, and the next minute the screen went dead and stayed there.
So for the next ten days I had plenty of time to consider the folly of using one vulnerable machine to do everything. No phone numbers, no calendar, no clock, no movies, no music, no internet... basically, life shut down for a week while I paced twenty miles a day in the living room.
I finally got a new (used) machine yesterday and have transfered everything over and gotten it all properly set up, but man, am I ever aware now of my addiction. I guess now I'll spend the next few days putting stuff on Ebay to try and offset the expense... For those who care about such things, what I wound up with is a 15" G4 powerbook, 1Ghz, 512 ram, 40GB hard drive with a combo drive. More or less the machine I've been lusting after for the last couple years. I would be excited if it hadn't completely emptied the bank account. I'll be excited later, I guess.
I did get some cool work done while I tried to distract myself, but I probably would have done that anyway. I decided that I had too many bottle caps piling up and made five more of the bottlecap fish. I'll try to get photos of them tomorrow, and I think they'll be the first thing to go up on Ebay.
