Here's a fun concept… The ScrewIt! Chair & Table set. Decide where you want them and just screw them into the lawn. The idea has been knocking around in my head for the last year or so, ever since I found the big dock augurs last spring. Although they do screw right down into the ground pretty easily, I might suggest using a post hole digger to speed the process up… Installing them by hand takes about five minutes of walking around in a tight circle, and at the end you wind up a bit dizzy and glad for the seat. Heh. It's easy to adjust the height by how deeply you plant them, and after a bit of fidgeting, leaning back and general testing, I can report that the chair is in fact quite stable. I'm an expert at fidgeting, so if it stays put for me, I can be pretty sure that it will stay put for you too.
The chair is based on my Dot! design, and, like the Dot! chairs, is shockingly comfortable. The table is a little something I made last year as a work surface for for a demonstration on how I make my cut steel luminaries. It was absolutely perfect as a small outdoor work table. I guess most people are far more likely to use it to hold cocktails or iced tea, but if you need a small fireproof table, well, hey! Here it is!
The ScrewIt! Chair & Table are made from 100% recycled material. The big augurs were originally used to anchor docks in sandy lake bottoms, the seat, backrest and table top are industrial scrap from a nearby factory, and the remaining bits are all cutoffs from other projects. I recommend powdercoat enamel as a finish, available in 100+ colors and combinations, but they can also be painted or left raw as you see them here. Powdercoating is among the most enviromentally friendly finishes, as well as the most durable for outdoor furniture and sculpture. The augurs can be removed for storage, shipping or trips to the beach by pressing the little button just visible on the table in the top pic.
Drop me an email if you'd like a set… Production on the ScrewIt! furniture will be extremely limited, due to the difficulty in finding more augurs, so I advise acting quickly.
