Have you ever looked at a mosaic table and thought, "I could do that"? Well, here's a chance to put that thought into action!
Registration is now open for my mosaic workshop at KP Tiles in Rochester Hills, MI. You can sign up for the class online at KP Tile's website, or call Kristen at 248.853.0418.
The class fee of $243 per person covers the cost of all materials, including the wrought iron table shown here, vitreous glass mosaic tile, grout, etc. All necessary tools will be provided for use during the class. The 5 day workshop will be held Saturdays, from 1-5 p.m. on the following days:
- September 10
- September 17
- September 24
- October 1
- October 8
This project-based course culminates in the creation of a beautiful 19" round mosaic table of your own design. The focus of this intermediate to advanced level class will be achieving pictorial representation with vitreous glass tile and training yourself to see as an artist and designer. I will be working one-on-one with each student to help them express their vision to the best of their ability. Students should bring ideas or drawings to the first class.
Those who already have a grounding in the basics of mosaic will benefit from advanced topics, such as designing for glass mosaic, techniques for achieving depth and form, and andamento (using the flow of tiles to enhance the overall image). Beginners are welcome to try their hand as well and will receive enough individual attention to be confident of creating a high quality mosaic. Basic mosaic techniques of cutting, setting and grouting will be covered in the introduction.
Imagine how you'll feel when you take home your finished table and can say, "I did that!"
PS. It's worth noting that the finished mosaic table you'll take home from the class would cost 2-3 times the tuition fee if I were doing it as a commission. Plus you have the satisfaction of learning about the craft, being able to show off your work when you're done, etc. If you're in the area, or even within an hour or two drive, I'd say it's a good deal all the way round.
